So with Derek Jeter retiring, I thought I would share one of my favorite Jeter memories.
It was a full moon Halloween night, the clock just around midnight. The Diamondbacks were up 2-1 in the World Series, which was being played later than usual because of the schedule changes in the wake of 9/11. Up comes Jeter in the bottom of the 10th, who was 0-4 and having a dreadful day at the plate. He eventually ran the count to 3-2 in an at-bat that took forever, and hit a game winning home run.
For a city that was still in shock, Jeter’s home run lifted spirits, even if temporarily, and gave hope. Even as the Yankees later lost that series, that game is still one that I won’t soon forget.
The video comes from the youtube channel MLB Classics, on which you can find entire games throughout baseball history.
